CultuR Cannabis and Kindway Farms collaborate to bring Missouri-bred genetics from seed to shelf
Missouri cannabis companies join forces to pheno hunt locally bred genetics, selecting standout expressions of Gavinator, Mango Jack, Wineberry Whip, Big D Boogie Woogie, and Love Whip for CultuR’s premium flower portfolio.
CultuR Cannabis is collaborating with Missouri breeder Kindway Farms on a genetics and pheno-hunting program designed to identify exceptional expressions of cannabis genetics bred right here in Missouri.
The collaboration brings together two distinct areas of craft cannabis: Kindway Farms’ breeding and genetic development and CultuR’s cultivation and pheno-selection program.
At the center of the project are five Missouri-bred cultivars: Gavinator, Mango Jack, Wineberry Whip, Big D Boogie Woogie, and Love Whip. CultuR is evaluating multiple phenotypes of each cultivar, looking beyond THC percentage to identify plants distinguished by terpene expression, aroma, flavor, resin production, flower structure, visual characteristics and cultivation performance.
The goal is simple: find exceptional Missouri genetics and give them a platform in the Missouri market.
MISSOURI GENETICS. MISSOURI CULTIVATION.
For CultuR, the collaboration represents a commitment to developing a cannabis identity rooted in the state rather than relying exclusively on genetics already established in legacy markets.
“Missouri has an incredibly talented cannabis community, and some exceptional genetics are being developed right here at home,” said Kris Sudduth, COO of CultuR Cannabis. “Our collaboration with Kindway Farms gives us the opportunity to start with genetics bred in Missouri, put them through a deliberate CultuR pheno hunt, and ultimately select the expressions we believe deserve to represent Missouri cannabis.”
Kindway Farms’ breeding work provides the genetic foundation. CultuR’s cultivation team then takes those genetics through the pheno-hunting process, evaluating how individual plants express themselves under CultuR’s cultivation environment.
That process can reveal significant differences between plants originating from the same genetic cross.
Rather than selecting solely for yield or potency, CultuR is searching for the complete cultivar, distinctive terpene profiles, exceptional flower quality, resin production, structure, consistency and an experience capable of differentiating the finished flower on a dispensary shelf.
PHENO HUNTING AS PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
CultuR views pheno hunting as more than a cultivation exercise. It is a form of cannabis product development.
Just as a Kindway Farms creates genetic possibilities through carefully selected crosses, the cultivator must identify which individual expression has the combination of characteristics worthy of becoming a repeatable commercial cultivar.
“We’re not looking for a plant simply because it produces the highest THC number,” Sudduth said. “We’re looking for the phenotype you remember after you open the jar, the one with the aroma, flavor, structure, resin and overall character that separates it from everything else on the shelf. That’s where genetics become a brand experience.”
The collaboration also provides consumers with a transparent story behind the flower: who developed the genetics, where they came from, and how the final phenotype was selected.
BUILDING A MISSOURI CANNABIS IDENTITY
Both companies see the project as part of something larger than four cultivars.
Missouri’s cannabis industry has matured rapidly, creating an opportunity for homegrown breeders, cultivators and manufacturers to develop products capable of establishing identities of their own rather than simply reproducing cultivars popularized elsewhere.
CultuR intends to continue working with breeders and genetic partners who share its focus on distinctive genetics, terpene expression and premium flower.
“Our industry should celebrate the people creating genetics here,” Sudduth said. “When a Missouri breeder creates something special and a Missouri cultivation team can find an exceptional expression of it, that’s a story worth telling. We’re proud to help take those genetics from Missouri-bred to Missouri-grown to Missouri dispensary shelves.”
BRED HERE. HUNTED HERE. GROWN HERE.
The Kindway Farms collaboration reflects the philosophy behind CultuR’s genetics program: Bred in Missouri. Phenohunted in Missouri. Grown for Missourians.
